The International Food Festival (IFF)
It has been carried out every year as a joyful celebration of
the various cultures of our residents. Neighbors and friends of HdB are encouraged to attend and try delicious foods from around the world.
This year, in order to keep our residents and community members safe in the midst of COVID-19, we opted to cancel the event in its original
form. We shifted the event from a festival to preparing takeaway bentos for the committee members and any neighbors who still showed up on the day of the event.
A total of four dishes were prepared: Taiwanese Sticky Rice by Jason, Vietnamese Lemongrass chicken by Haruna and Vien, Chinese Sweet Potato Jelly by Haku and Shihei, and Ugandan Chapati by Stellah. A total of 50 bentos were prepared for guests. About 10 guests (including members of the committee showed up), and the rest of the food was distributed amongst the residents. All of the dishes were delicious, so the IFF tobans would like to thank the cooks for their hard work!
During uncertain times such as these, flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing situations is crucial to putting on a successful event. The IFF tobans, consisting of Margaret, Qiu, and Stellah, would like to thank the HdB team, our house parents Naresh and Aya, the HdB committee, and The Nakajima Foundation and JASSO
for their generous contribution to the festival, withoutwhich the event would not have been possible.
